214 Between Cities, Sibenik Draga & Crnica
(QUOTATION)
"Crnica Bordered
Extending the walk along the shore and adding two
more plazas at the border of the city core increases
the urban quality and standard of living in this area.
At the location of Crnica we suggest a mixed use,
for tourists and for inhabitants, an additive planing
principle for condensing the existing structures and
minimising intervention in nature. After defining
the borders of each specific bay and installing a
footpath connection between them, we are getting a
twin-system that is offering functions for the everyday
walk and by chance passing skipper. As the industrial
functions are drifting, there are opportunities for
service companies, local recreation needs and small
tourist accommodations to occupy the space.
Draga Terraced
Main characteristic of Draga is topographical gradation
and small housing structure. The intention of the
city to replace the existing housing by business and
shopping structures should consider the small scale
of the urbanism and higher density of the upcoming
planing. Our suggestion is to install a terraced pedestrian
zone followed by building stripes that inhabits shops,
offices and flats. This building complex is bordered
in the north by the street Ante Starcevica and the
new Market; in the south with a new plaza. These two
endpoints, with the height difference of 16 m, are
connected by stairs and ramps. The main elements of
this open curved space are consecutive platforms.
The architecture follows the principle of variety
and density. The ground levels are containing shops
cafes and restaurants. Offices and flats are located
in upper levels. Considering the parking problem in
the area and necessity for the planed houses we suggest
a subterranean garage with entries and exits on both
ends."
