Project approach concept
For Crnica site, the proposal offers a solution which
changes shapeless and non-urban formation into pedestrian
and vehicle traffic space with meaningful contents.
Traffic model solves the present problem of return
traffic and parked cars along the entire historic
centre of the city and urban design turns Crnica into
cultivated and functional residential zone with services
such as tourism, catering, mercantile and craftsmanship.
Model for Draga is based upon the re-evaluation of
the contents and functions in the zone. The structure
penetrates indenting its horizontal outlines between
the parts of the existing irregularly structured formation,
thus providing the pedestrian access to the market
from all directions. Established accented pedestrian
lane which climbs across the market toward main city
street is visually closed by the longitudinal building.
That structure is in its entirety a pedestrian zone
with halls, cinemas and offices on other two stories.
All other new buildings, inserted or reconstructed,
depend on micro-location. They are elevated from P+1
to P+8 and are generally intended for business at
ground level and residence at remaining floors. In
order to get smooth pedestrian circulation, the existing
parking lot by the station and in the harbour area
is expanded by multi-level parking house. Lowering
the street in front of train station from +18 to the
level of the lower plateau Draga, the direct approach
and the delivery to Draga site is ensured and overall
traffic flow improved. Reallocation of bus terminal
to the railroad station plateau would free Draga from
heavy traffic and furthermore, open a possibility
for transformation of bus terminal to the naval pier
with various facilities (agencies, boat supplies,
harbour headquarters etc.).
