Project
VR 042 (RI-9), «Extended View»
The author successfully transformed the considerations
about the quality of life and local character of
the site into realistic, feasible and high quality
urbanism and architecture. Intelligent use of topography
resulted in longitudinal strips of houses on south
and north edge of plateau, thus ensuring the ideal
orientation towards the south and panorama for every
housing unit. In-between the strips of houses, on
the plain part of the site, complex public spaces
are formed. It comprises variety of functions such
as children and sport playgrounds, shops, cafés,
offices, shaded and sunny gathering spots. With
imaginative disposition the public and private is
intertwined, and the distinction between the two
is flexible and formed according to the needs and
wishes of the inhabitants. A positive side-effect
of this urban disposition is the possible extension
of public space in the east direction which could
become the entrance/access to the botanical garden
planned on the east hill-side of the competition
site. Chosen typology ensures the quality of life
and corresponds to the genius loci - the combinations
of individual and collective houses, detached or
in rows, horizontal («living with the garden») and
vertical («living with the view»). Different sizes
of the units promise social inclusion and avoidance
of exclusiveness and elitism.
This project is highly valuable, imaginative and
intelligent proposal, on both urban and architectural
scale. Although realistic and contextual, it is
at the same time modern and attractive.
